They say it all started with Elvis ,Little Richard and Johnny Cash and The world of Rock ‘n Roll was born,a world that was not ready to bow down to the stereotypes of the society and instead was ready to liberate the youth from the era of monotony. And as time passed by many great bands and artists came along to solidify the belief of those before them. The Beatles,The Who,The Rolling Stones,Jimi Hendrix,Cream,Clapton,The Doors,Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple,Pink Floyd,Artists that are today, considered to be the pioneers of Classic Rock, were at one point of time considered to be Rebels.
One of
the most important characteristics of Human beings’ existence is their
ability to evolve into something different and still maintaining their original
structure. The same thing is applicable to Rock. As the time passed by,Rock
evolved itself into many genres and sub genres. We saw the Birth of Heavy
Metal, when four guys from Birmingham got together and formed a band,a band which you
might have heard of before,Black Sabbath,The God fathers of heavy
metal.Following Sabbath and inspired by their craft, many bands adopted their
sound into their music and made it their own.Judas Priest,Iron
Maiden,Motorhead(Lemmy Bless Lemmy),Rush,Thin Lizzy,Van Halen and many more.
And
then came the 80′s.Say whatever you may want about this period of time or the
music that was being made, but I liked it.There were two main sub genres of
metal during this time.Glam Metal and Thrash.
Glam
Metal bands focused on creating radio friendly music whereas Thrash
incorporated the elements of punk into metal and had graphic lyrics about
sacrifice, warfare and life.Honestly speaking,I love them both.Maybe preferred Thrash more(I may just end up writing an article on Why Thrash
is better than Glam, not that you need my approval). But all in all good times
they were.
Aah,The
90′s.I’ll only cover the first half of the 90′s because in my opinion Rock Died
somewhere along the way.We had bands like RHCP,REM,Jane’s
addiction,Melvins,Sonic Youth,Alice in Chains,Soundgarden,Pearl Jam,Foo
Fighters and the so called leaders of the generation X and the reason I started playing guitar,Nirvana.
Their
music helped a kid who was being bullied at school,a teenager who was going
through hard times,a kid full of anxiety, basically everyone who was trying to
fit in when he was actually meant to stand out.I grew up on these bands and
will probably spend the rest of my life listening to them.
All in
all, good times they were. But the question that needs to be asked is,
What
happened to Rock?
What
happened to just playing what you felt and not what the guy producing the
record felt?
What
happened to the rebel attitude of doing something new?
Why are
Bands and artists afraid to do something different?
What
the fuck happened to just playing your instrument and learning your craft and
not depending upon a fucking computer to rectify your imperfections?
Of
course there are some bands that are keeping Rock ‘n Roll alive but in pure
numbers they are nothing when compared to the assholes of the pop industry.
All I
am trying to say is if you are a young artist or a band who loves rock ,don’t
be afraid to just go out and play.

You’re
afraid you are imperfect?? That’s awesome,We all are,but learn your craft
first. It doesn't matter how many times you get shot down by your friends or
others that you suck, keep working hard and Keep this form alive, this way of
life that we grew up on, I grew up on!
